Red Sox 4, Giants 2

Another nail biter for the Red Sox in game two of the playoffs. Great pitching from both teams was the headline in this game to stay alive in the winners bracket in the minor league playoffs.

Hayden Fuchino started strong for the Giants getting the first two batters he faced. Hard hitting Max Buehler hit a shot but good defense kept him to a single. The Red Sox, getting quite used to two out rallies then strung three consecutive hits from clean up hitter Megan Correa, Connor Toups and Johnny "Mackelbon" McKay to scratch out a 2 run lead in the top of the first.

The solid hitting Giants were kept in check by Max "Bobcat" Buehler who threw a perfect first inning supported by great defense. Highlight of the day for the solid defense came in the first when Dylan "the vacuum cleaner" Russell scooped up a hard ground ball at third from heavy hitting Sean Van Dine and threw him out at first.

The two teams battled through scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings even though the Red Sox loaded the bases in the second inning but Hayden managed to get back to back grounders to escape without any score. Max B threw a strong second recording 3 consecutive K's to complete two shutout innings. Max Stafford stepped on the mound and equalled that performance by pitching to the minimum 6 batters over two innings to keep the Giants in check. Though held in check for the 2nd and 3rd, the Sox battled in the 4th to scratch out two more runs keyed by the second half of the line up. Four singles by Mackelbon, Robert "the Cheetah" Tsai, Daniel "DB" Berri and Michael "Hitman" Mulkey for the tallies.

But you can't expect to keep any team in LBLL down all day , especially the Giants who battled back to tally two in the fifth with the heart of the Giants line up banging 4 straight hits from the Murderer's Row of Van Dine, Teets, Mrou and Matura before Robby "Ice Man" Prado escaped with a much needed strike out. Robby P followed that up with a perfect 6th and two K's to secure the win. An absolute team win for the Sox.

But no rest for the weary as the Sox head into the head to head battle with the next tough opponent, the Angels this Thursday. Let's get lot's of fans out for that one. Go Sox!

Red Sox 13, Yanks 5

And the TRAIN keeps a rollin’ for the Mighty Red Sox, winners of 6 of their last 7 games.

Better yet, a fantastic line-up that featured players in new positions where they shined! Dalton “Killer D” Eberhard and Robert “Cheetah” Tsai threw consistent strikes and Daniel “Killer D” Berri pitched a great 5th inning to earn the save. Max “Ice Cream” Buehler made dazzling plays at shortstop and hit the fence with another bomb, which means more Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches for the squad. If this keeps up, coaches will be asking Lunada Bay Market for a permanent sponsorship!

Eberhard also played catcher for the first time this season and when cornered by reporters at the end of the game and pressed for comment, Eberhard calmly nodded and said “I had fun and I want to play catcher again!” Zack “Z” Foltz continues to shine at 2B and today got the nod at shortstop as well and looked solid. Joining the fun was CT, Connor Toups, who also caught his first game of the season.

The Yanks made some big hits as well and were super heady on the bases, frustrating the Red Sox with great hustle. Kyle McCann continued to show his knowledge of the game and the Bronx Bombers were a few timely hits away from grabbing the lead.

The Sox had another great practice session on Sunday, defensive drills are paying off big-time but the best news was when the coaches asked their players if they were having fun, they all instantly raised their hands and left them up. Now that’s Red Sox Pride!

All aboooooard!!!!!

Red Sox 8, Giants 3

The winds came up huge but still paled in comparison to all the kids that played super hard in the coldest conditions of the season. Pitchers from both sides did an unbelievable job controlling the ball in the whirlwinds. Max “Ice Cream” Buehler, Robbie Prado and Max Stafford combined for the gem to keep the Red Sox winning streak alive. The Giants hurlers were led by Sean Van Dine, Hayden Fucchino, Nolan Matura and William Teets.

Red Sox hitters continued to tear apart the ball, led by Buehler, Stafford, Michael Mulkey and Megan Correa. Fantastic defensive plays were turned in at 3B by the Killer D’s, Dylan Russell and Dalton Eberhard. Red Sox outfielders did a terrific job keeping hard hit balls from getting past them, turning would be home runs from Van Dine and Matura into doubles.

The Red Sox continue to improve in all phases of the game. The kids are having a blast and their spirit is contagious. Keep it up Sox!

Red Sox 10, Cards 1

The Red Sox kept their hot streak going with another solid effort vs a tough Cardinal team. Max “Ice-Cream” Buehler and Robbie Prado kept their scoreless inning streak alive and Johnny McKay and Michael Mulkey put the finishing touches on a well-pitched game.

Clean-up hitter Megan Correa continues to kill the ball with every swing. She had several shots that brought home runs for the Sox. Zack Foltz also reached base every time up and made some great plays in the field. Max Stafford, Dalton Eberhard, Connor Toups, Robert Tsai and Dylan Russell also had several hits.

Wyatt Chang, Trevor Griffiths and Mark O’Brien shined for the cards both in the field and at the plate. O’Brien made an ESPN highlight reel play at shortstop to stop a Sox rally in the 4th inning.

Great playing Red Sox!

Red Sox 1, Yankees 0

ESPN kicked off the 2010 baseball season with the Sox vs. Yanks @ Fenway. Ended up being an epic battle but didn’t come close to comparing with the gem that was played Tuesday at the LBLL Minor League diamond.

Every savvy baseball expert knows that defense and pitching wins championships and both were on beautiful display the entire game. Red Sox hurlers, Max “Ice Cream” Buehler, Robbie "Big Game" Prado and Max "Lightning" Stafford combined for the 4-hit shutout. The Yanks showed heart right up until the very end, when they had Harrison Harper at third base after a clutch hit, but Stafford showed his poker face and kept composure, striking out the side to give the Red Sox a big win after Spring Break. Stafford’s pitching was spot on, however he likely made his biggest contribution in the field, nabbing a super hard-hit line drive off the bat of Kyle McCann while playing shortstop to end a Yankee threat.

Heady defensive play by the Yankees was turned in by Kyle McCann, who made three solid plays at shortstop, two on blistering hits by Megan Correa. Yankee hurlers were also solid and kept the ball consistently over the plate and frustrated Red Sox hitters.

Robert "Mr. Clutch" Tsai had the game winning hit for the Sox, scoring Stafford on a hard-hit ground ball. Other Red Sox hitters with base hits included Dalton "The Rock" Eberhard, Johnny "Big Mac" McKay and Zack "Squeaker" Foltz.

It was a true honor to watch the quality of baseball turned in by these amazing kids.

Go Red Sox!

Marlins 17 Red Sox 4

A defensive gem was turned in by the first place Marlins. Great plays left and right frustrated the Red Sox hitters, who did a fantastic job putting the ball into play. Greg Smart was a Jeter look-a-like and Colin Palmer, Curran Paulsen and Kevin Kane also looked steady in the field in a near errorless effort!

Stellar pitching by Greg Smart, Kevin Kane, and Nicholas Franklin kept the Red Sox hitters off-balance and the Marlins jumped ahead in the 3rd inning without looking back. The Marlins also did their fair share of hitting with Palmer getting a key triple to break open a big 4th inning.

The Red Sox coaches yet again had to cough up Ice Cream sandwiches due to another big-time Home Run by Max “Ice Cream” Buehler that hit the fence on two bounces. Michael Mulkey and Robbie Prado also had several hard hits that were somehow able to get thru the alert Marlin defenders. Courtesy of Coach Foltz, the Red Sox players all wore April Fool’s masks when they took infield warm-ups, a true hit that kept the fun meter running high.

Some new Red Sox hurlers were seen on the mound, Zack Foltz and Robert Tsai had outstanding moments and Max Stafford was brilliant in relief. Prado also recorded a few easy innings and Buehler was throwing super hard to start the game .

The Red Sox are looking forward to Spring Break and will be coming back super focused!

Angels 8, Red Sox 5

Warm weather welcomed many to this great game between Minor Division foes. The starting pitchers were Brian King for the Angels and Max Buehler for the Sox and both sparkled in a overall well-played contest. The Red Sox jumped to a quick lead behind yet another Max "Ice Cream" Buehler home run that rattled the chain link fence. The significance of the ball hitting the fence was huge, as Coaches Foltz and McKay now owed post-game ice cream to the entire team! Not bad for a hot day...

Not to be outdone, the Angels jumped right back into the game with a 3-run first inning. After some early fireworks, the game became a defensive battle thanks to the efforts of pitchers Robby Prado, Michael Mulkey and Johnny McKay of the Red Sox and Jack Good, Connor Leach and Rex of the Angels.

Robby Prado got McKay out of a sticky situation in the bottom of the 4th with a shoestring catch in Right Center.

The Red Sox, down 8-4 to start the top of the 6th, had the tying run step up to the plate. Things we're looking good for the Sox until Rex came in for the Angels and earned a great save.

The Red Sox now look forward to their next game vs. the Marlins on Thursday and will try to earn Ice Cream again!

Robert ready to scoop up that grounder!

Red Sox 9 - Giants 9

The Red Sox faced the previously undefeated Giants on Tuesday night in what turned out to be an epic battle. After shutting down the Red Sox in a 1-2-3 first inning, the hard hitting Giant line up tallied the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first taking a 2-0 lead. Unphased, the Red Sox came up big in the second with 9 runs. After some slick fielding by the Giants, things were not looking great for the Sox with the bases loaded and two outs. Big D, Daniel Berri came up and shook off a tough ball that hit him on the bounce right in the shin. Because it was a dead ball, Daniel had to dust himself off and step back into the box. Working the count into his favor Daniel rapped a double driving in the Red Sox first three runs. Showing a great deal of enthusiasm, the Sox then continued with eight consecutive batters reaching base with two outs in the books. The 9 run rally was capped by a double by Max Stafford driving in the final two runs.

Max Buehler came in the bottom of the second and held the Giants scoreless in his last inning to pitch. But the Giants are in first for a reason and they righted the ship and held the Sox quiet in the third and mounted a blistering rally in the 3rd scoring 4 runs. Robby Prado settled in and struck out the number 6 hitter and induced a ground ball to Michael Mulkey at short to end the threat. 9-6 Red Sox.

The Sox and Giants then traded scoreless innings with Max Stafford on the mound. However, with time running down in the 5th, the Giants again battled back to score three runs in the bottom of the frame. Just when things were looking like the Giants would score that go ahead run and run out of time, Max got the next batter to ground out to first. With two outs and the winning run on second, Dylan Russell came up with the play of the game grabbing a line drive just above the shoe tops to end the threat. If the second of our three “Big D’s” didn’t come up with the crucial play, the Giants would have walked home for the victory.

In an edge of your seat finish, the Giants got men on first and second with one out when Robby Prado, back on the mound for the second time of the night, struck out the next two batters, the third out being recorded with 2 on, 2 out and a full count in an epic 8 pitch duel between hitter and pitcher. Coming up big to preserve the 9-9 tie against a very good and tough to beat Giants team.

All around team win for the Sox. We’ll be climbing back on that TRAIN against the Angels on Saturday!

Cardinals 16 - Red Sox 4

A tough outing for the Sox although plenty of shining lights during the game. Starting with a great snag at third based by Dylan to close out a Cardinal rally and save 3 runs followed but Dylan throwing a fine inning on the mound. Speaking of being on the mound, the other big D, Dalton Eberhard threw a strong inning on the mound as well. Some fantastic outfield play by Max Stafford and Robert Tsai helped keep the Cardinals at bay. We'll practice hard this week and prepare for the first place Yankees.

Yankees 10 - Red Sox 8

Those darn Yankees did it again to the good ol' Red Sox. While the Red Sox mounted a furious comeback in the top of the final inning, they fell just short of overtaking their arch rival Bronx Bombers. Michael Mulkey contributed with a Home Run, Robbie Prado pitched two strong innings and made a dazzling play at first base snagging a sure triple down the line and turning it into an out and Johnny McKay continued his torrid hitting for the team. The Red Sox will strap on the gear again on Saturday against the Cardinals and will come ready to play.

Some great additional pictures from Dalton's mom. Thanks Cindy!

Angels 13 Red Sox 6

The Red Sox ran into the hot hitting Angels on Saturday and came of on the short end of the scoreboard. Still great hitting by the team with Max Stafford gathering his first home run and Robby Prado continued his hot hitting with three hits and one run scored. Big D, Daniel Berri slapped his first hit to center and stretched it into a double.

We had great pitching from Max B and Max S with Megan Correa making her debut on the mound and striking out two. Max Stafford pitched a perfect 3 up/3 K third inning and Johnny Mac pitched a strong 5th.

Everyone battled on Saturday and never gave up. Next we take on our arch rival Yankees on Monday.

Marlins 12 Red Sox 10

The battling Red Sox were in an other close one. A seesaw game that saw the Sox jump out to a quick 3-2 lead after the first went back and forth until it was tied 9-9 in the 3rd. The Marlins went on top in the 4th by 3 and held of a furious charge by the Sox heavy hitting line up in the to pf the 5th to hold on.

Great performances by everyone including Max B with a home run and some great pitching, Rockin' Robert Tsai with an unbelievable play at third making the perfect throw to Dalton at first, Mega Correa coming fresh off the spelling bee stage to bang out an important hit and Dylan Russell with a key early hit and run scored to help the team jump out in front. Everyone played hard and when the Marlins jumped out in front, we showed great fight in mounting our comeback.

On to the Angels on Saturday

OPENING DAY MIGHTY RED SOX!
