Marlin's Pool Party

Marlins 6, Cardinals 5
Even with the afternoon pool party at Coach Kane’s, the Marlins kept their eye-on-the ball in this battle versus a well-coached and spirited group of Cardinals. After Smart scored on a single by Jellison, Franklin ripped another single. Big Colin “The Colinator” Palmer stepped in with another to-the-fence HR to clear the bases. It was Colin’s 3 HR in his last 4 at bats. Some fancy footwork by Jake Jellison added a run in the 3rd. But those stingy Cardinals came back with 3 runs in the bottom half. Then in the 5th, as the game got tense, Ben Kahrs knocked a single. Declan Moore cracked another single into the outfield. Then Jake Jellison hammered another single to score Ben and collect his 3rd RBI of the day.

It was a tough battle, but the Marlins have a lot of heart and a never-say-die attitude which was just enough to sneak in for the W. The team was rewarded with some fun in the sun and some serious backyard waffle ball at the Kane’s where Jeff Heisler dominated the diamond.

Marlins 11, Red Sox 3
The Marlins came out slugging on a chilly spring evening. Even against the formidable pitching of Mighty Max Buehler, the Marlins started big with a 3-run inside-the-park HR from Colin Palmer. Palmer hit another HR in the 5 to cap off a 5 RBI day. Also producing runs were Curran Poulsen, Andrew Laurin, Declan Moore, Greg Smart, Jake Jellison, and Nick Franklin.

Angels 5, Marlins 6

The Angels and Marlins continued their close rivalry with another exiting game on Tuesday night. The Marlins jumped out with 4 quick runs in the 1st on the sidewinder - BK Brian King. The Marlins added a run in the 3rd and 4th. But “quit” is not in the Angels vocabulary and they battled back. The Angels scored 2 runs in the 5th to get the score to 6-5. With no outs and a man on second, Jake “the iceman” Jellison closed out the side to preserve the game.

Marlins 6 – Yankees 5
The Marlins outlasted the Yankees in a blistery evening. The Yankees jumped out to a quick lead on runs from Peter Fullerton and Kyle McCann. The Marlins bounced back with 3 runs in the bottom of the first on hits from Greg Smart, Jake Jellison, Colin Palmer, and Curran Poulsen. The Yankees evened the score in the 2nd on a run from Josef Kirkman and then got the lead in the top of the 3rd on runs again from Fullerton and McCann. But the Marlins came back with 2 runs again from Smart and Jellison for a 5-5 tie. Good pitching and fielding kept the score tied until Ben Khars’ no-out triple in the bottom of the 5th. Greg Smart knocked him in on a fielder’s choice. Both teams played well and it was too bad someone had to win.

Someone should tell the umpire to open his eyes!

Marlin 4, Giants 8
The Marlins and Giants had another battle in the Saturday am game. Great pitching from Greg Smart, Jake Jellison, Colin Palmer and Curran Poulsen stymied the Giants batters for most of the day. Ben Kahrs had the play of the year with a triple in the 2nd that scored Andrew Rigg and Andrew Laurin putting the Marlins ahead 4-3. Greg Smart and Nick Franklin also scored for the Marlins.

The game went down to the wire. With the scored tied at the 4-4 end of 5, the Giants broke it open in the 6th with runs from Nolan Matura, William Teets, Hayden Fuchino and Leo Montiel.

Angels 4, Marlins 3
A war took place at the Minors Field on Thursday. It was an epic battle with the Angels trying to avenge a heartbreaking loss to the Marlins earlier in the season. With poetic justice, the Angels delivered 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th for the win. The Marlin threw 5 pitchers and each faced only 5 batters. Greg Smart had another 3-3 night and scored 2 runs for the Marlins while Kevin Kane had two hits and scored the other run. The Angels got runs from Jack Good, Conner Leach (2) and Brian King. It was a nail biter with the Marlins going up 2-1 after the first. The teams traded runs in the 3rd. Leach held the Marlins scoreless in the 4th and 5th allowing only 1 hit. The Marlins got 2 quick outs in the bottom of the 5th. Then Jack Good hit a hard single. Conner Leach pounded a double and Brian King clubbed a walk-off double.

Marlins 17, Red Sox 4

A defensive gem was turned in by the first place Marlins. Great plays left and right frustrated the Red Sox hitters, who did a fantastic job putting the ball into play. Greg Smart was a Jeter look-a-like and Colin Palmer, Curran Paulsen and Kevin Kane also looked steady in the field in a near errorless effort!

Stellar pitching by Greg Smart, Kevin Kane, and Nicholas Franklin kept the Red Sox hitters off-balance and the Marlins jumped ahead in the 3rd inning without looking back. The Marlins also did their fair share of hitting with Palmer getting a key triple to break open a big 4th inning.

Marlins 9, Cardinals 4
The Marlins nipped the Cards in the morning game on Saturday. The Cards saw runs from Jack Moore, Mark O'Brien, Wyatt Chang and Izzet Kosar. The Marlins went six pitchers deep in the win and had great hitting from Nick Franklin (3-3, 1 Run, 1 RBI) and William Roth-Berg (3-1, 1 Run 2 RBI). Smart, Palmer, Poulsen and Kane each had 2 hits in 3 at bats

Yankees 3, Marlins 11
The Marlins and Yankees had a barn-burner Thursday night. The Yankees got runs from Joey Quinn, Kyle McCann and Daniel Basilios. The Marlins had 3 players with multiple RBIs: Curran Poulsen (3), Declan Moore (3) and Colin Palmer (2). The Marlins pitching core of Smart, Kane, Jellison, Palmer and Poulsen got the job done in this 5 inning marathon.

Marlins 7, Angels 6
Great pitching and fielding led the angels to a 6-0 lead after 5 innings, but the Marlins came to life as darkness approached. A miraculous 7-run rally in the bottom of the 6th was the difference. The angels outplayed the marlins for most of the game in a heartbreaking loss - as the marlins bench erupted.

Giants 5, Marlins 5

The Giants and Marlins played to a 4-4 tie after 6 full innings. For the Marlins, Gregory Smart, Jake Jellison and Andrew Rigg scored on RBIs from Curren Poulsen and Andrew Laurin.

The Mighty Marlins on Opening Day!
