Best Playoff Game Ever?

LBLL Reds 1 – LBLL Angels 0 (11 innings)

First round of the playoffs and 1 – 0, 11 inning game - are you kidding me?! It just has to go down as one of the all time classics; an absolutely epoch battle!

Pitchers from both teams were lights out. The Reds James Latimer pitched a stunning 8 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits and striking out 11 batters and then was followed by Jake McKenna for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball in which he struck out 6 batters and pitched out of a bases loaded, two out jam that was culminated by striking out one of the league’s best hitters. However, the Angels’ Sander Alley (6 innings of shutout ball) and Kyle McElroy (5 innings, 1 hard luck unearned run) matched the Reds hurlers pitch for pitch. But as dominating as the pitching was, balls were still flying all over the ball park. It’s just that the Angels defense was equally amazing - diving catches and double plays were being made all over the place! Reds batters Kyle Aldrete, Jordan Greenway, Jake Camel and Jake McKenna were all robbed of extra base hits. In the 10th inning with one runner on, James Latimer smoked what appeared to be a go-ahead triple down the first base line only to have Sander Alley of the Angels steal it from him with a ridiculous stab! Add to that the huge boisterous crowd, the playoff intensity, the extra innings, the setting sun, the many, many, dramatic moments – everything contributed to what was easily the most memorable game of the entire season and perhaps in the entire history of LBLL!

After the game, both teams coaches felt exactly the same; Reds or Angels, win or lose, it was all any coach could ever ask for from a team.

LBLL Reds 14 – LBLL Angles 3

What a game the Reds played to close out the regular season. The Reds had 13 hits lead by Jordan Greenway with 3 hits including 2 home runs - a shot over the right center field fence and a legitimate inside the park homer. Jake Camel added 2 hits (including a triple), James Latimer had 3 hits, Phillip Smart added a triple and Jake McKenna a double plus five stellar innings on the mound. The Reds go into the post season with an 11 – 7 record and will face the Angeles again in the first round of the playoffs - setting up the rubber match between the two teams who split their regular season matchups.

LBLL Reds 7 – RHLL Reds 1

Starting pitcher Jake McKenna recorded half of his outs with strikeouts, gave up only 1 run and the defense set the tone with 6 errorless innings. Austin Rule earned the game ball by scoring every time he got on base without the assist a batter recording a hit while he was on base. Finn Parks continued his scorching hot second half going 1 of 2 with an RBI (he is batting .500 over the last 5 games) and James Latimer hit his 5th home run of the season and added three RBI’s. A nice team win.

LBLL Reds 5 – RHLL Athletics 2

The RHLL Athletics with the best record on the entire P.V. Peninsula came and paid a visit to Lunada Bay Little League and the Reds (9-3) were there to greet them with their game faces on. James Latimer pitched a 4 hit complete game while striking out 10 batters and was supported by 10 hits and very solid defense as the Reds rolled to a 5 -2 win. Jordan Greenway lead the way with two hits and a spectacular play at short in the top of the 6th to squelch a late rally by the Athletics after their first two batters got on with base hits and Jake McKenna rocketed a two run double in the 3rd inning to help give the Reds the breathing room they needed. But the real difference maker was the play of the catchers. Game balls went out to both Jake Camel and Matt Miller for their excellent performance behind the plate – calling a great game, keeping their pitcher in the zone, preventing pass balls and keeping the Athletics from advancing once they got on base. A HUGE team win.

LBLL Reds 3 – RHLL Phillies 0

The Reds (8-3) and the Phillies played one heck of a game Saturday morning. Balls were flying all over the field and each team’s defense was spectacular. In what could go down as one of the best played games of the year, the Reds bested the Phillies 3 - zip. Jake McKenna and James Latimer each pitched 3 innings for the combined shutout and every Reds’ batter hit the ball hard. However, the Phillies defense was more than up to the challenge robbing several Reds of hits; the Reds responded in kind with Alex Lee, Jake Camel, Austin Rule Matt Miller and Kyle Aldrete all making terrific plays in the field. James Latimer got the Reds ahead for good when he hit another home run, his 3rd of the year - a first inning blast into the trees in deep center field.
LBLL Red 6 – RHLL Dodgers 3

After finishing the first half of the year a solid 6 – 3, the Reds kicked off the second half against a tough RHLL Dodger team. A well played game on both sides resulted in a tug-of-war that kept the outcome in jeopardy until the last out was recorded. Overall the Reds had their best all around performance of the year with 8 hits, solid defense and good pitching. James Latimer lead the way with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s including his second home run of the season - an opposite field blast to deep right center. Matt Miller returned from injury to reclaim his leadoff spot going 1 for 3 and Jake Camel caught a stellar game behind the plate while batting 1 for 2 with a sacrifice fly to left field that put the Reds in the lead for good.
LBLL Reds 5 PVLL Indians 1

James Latimer pitched a 2 hit complete game, giving up only one unearned and striking out 12 of the 23 batters he faced. 10 year old Matt Miller, playing like a veteran, maintained his yearlong consistent play by batting leadoff, getting another hit, scoring another run and catching another stellar game - not only does Matt call his own game but he kept the Indians from advancing on the base paths virtually the entire game. Jungi Hong got a key triple and RBI while Kyle Aldrete and Phillip Smart each added a hit and an RBI to lead the LBLL Reads to their fourth consecutive win without a loss this season.
