What a crazy game! The Lunada Bay Dodgers got their first win of the season and are ready to take on the rest of the schedule. The Dodgers jumped out of the gate with 7 big runs in the first inning, five of them with two outs. Brody Biggs, Austin Nash and Nolan Matura all had big hits during the inning. After a slow start, walking the first two batters, Brody Biggs pitched a solid 1 2/3 innings, giving up only one run. After Biggs ran out of pitches due to a Monday game to follow, Patrick Shannon came on to get the last out of the 2nd inning and pitched a scoreless third inning.

Meanwhile the Dodgers came alive for three more runs in the third inning. Keaton Heise led off with a triple and Patrick Shannon followed with an RBI single. Jeremy Adler continued his solid hitting with an RBI triple, and Jesse Allen and Daniel Basilios also had hits in the inning. The Dodgers would have had more if it weren't for a great play by the White Sox Pitcher on a line drive screamer up the middle.

The White Sox came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nolan Matura consistently threw strikes, but the Sox kept hitting it where the Dodgers weren't, andcombined with a couple of errors, the White Sox managed to come all the way back to tie the score at 10-10. Brandon Nash came in to get the final two outs on strikeouts to end the bleeding.

The Dodgers could have folded when the White Sox brought in their ace, Jake Dunbar to pitch in the fifth inning, but they didn't. Jake was throwing serious heat, but the Dodgers stood in and fouled pitches off to stay alive. It paid off when Patrick Shannon lined a single through the infield. Once on base, he was able to steal second and third. Jeremy Adler came through with a single past the 2nd baseman to bring in what would be the winning run.

Brandon Nash continued pitching in the 5th inning, allowing a runner to third but ending the inning unscathed with a comebacker that he threw to first for the final outfrom his knees. Dunbar struck out the side in the top of the sixth setting up a pressure packed bottom of the sixth. Brandon gave up a single to the White Sox #3 hitter to lead off the inning, but he was quickly erased for the first out of the inning when Keaton Heise gunned him down at second when he tried to steal. Brandon pitched carefully around the White Sox # 4 hitter Dunbar conceding a walk. Dunbar was eliminated on a hard hit ground ball which Brody Biggs and Austin Nash worked together on to get the lead runner. With a one run lead and a runner on first, Brandon got the next hitter out on a comebacker to the mound to end the game and preserve the win.

A great team effort with 9 of twelve players getting hits, and 8 of 12 players scoring runs. The Dodgers will face the PV Giants on Monday at Lunada Bay.

03/14/11

LB Dodgers 12 PV Giants 7

This game was a prime example of team effort! The dodgers used five different pitchers, each of which was effective, and 10 of 11 hitters for the Dodgers had at least one hit. The one player without a hit this game still contributed with an RBI.

In the first inning Leif Krampert made his pitching debut for the Dodgers, and did a great job, giving up only one run thanks to some great support from his teammates in the field when they turned the teams first double play of the season on a hard ground ball to Brody Biggs at shortstopto end the inning. The Dodgers quickly erased the one run deficit in the bottom of the first with three runs while sending 8 batters to the plate. Brandon Nash, Keaton Heise and Patrick Shannon each had RBI's.

In the second inning it was Patrick Shannon's turn to pitch. He too gave up one run when a runner tagged from third on a flyout to centerfield. In the bottom half of the inning, Thomas Jenkins got his first hit of the season, but the Dodgers where unable to bring him home, keeping it a close 3-2 game.

The third inning brought Austin Nash to the mound for the Dodgers. Austin did a great job, facing only four batters and giving up no runs. In the bottom half of the inning the Dodgers were able to get a little breathing room as Brandon Nash led off the inning with a single, and he came around to score on an RBI single by Patrick Shannon to give the Dodgers a 4-2 lead.

The fourth inning saw another debut on the mound this season. this time for Jeremy Adler. After getting the first out, the Giants loaded the bases, but Jeremy was up to the challenge. He got the nextout when Nolan Matura made a good play at catcher, getting the force out at home. The next hitter then grounded out to end the inning preventing any runs from scoring. In the bottom of the inning the Dodgers once again opened up a little breathing room with some clutch hitting from the bottom of the order. After the Giants quickly recorded the first two outs of the inning, Jack Matson came through with his first hit of the season. Thomas Jenkins then followed with his 2nd hit of the game and Austin Nash drove them both in with a double, making it a 6-2 game.

Brody Biggs came on to pitch in the fifth inning and brought the heat. The heart of the Giants order was able to scratch out one run in the inning, but Brody was able to end the inning when Austin Nash made a catch on a flyball to right field, stranding runners at 2nd and 3rd. The Dodgers bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning when they sent 12 men to the plate and scored 6 runs. Brody Biggs, Keaton Heise, Jeremy Adler, Daniel Basilios, and Austin Nash all had RBI's in the inning. That made the score 12-3 going into the top of the 6th inning.

Brody Biggs stayed on the mound to finish the game, but the Giants weren't going down without a fight. After Brody quickly got the first two outs of the inning on a comebacker to the mound and a strikeout, the Giants bats came alive plating four runs. However, Brody was able to put an end to the game with a strikeout of the Giants #3 hitter leaving a runner at third for a final score of 12-7.

The Dodgers are now 2-1 and will face the Rolling Hills A's at Lunada Bay on Saturday the 19th.

The Dodgers are proud of the fact that seven of the 12 players on the team have been able to pitch at least once so far and we are only three games into the season. We will continue to develop and add players to the rotation as the season continues.

Dodgers 14 Rolling Hills A's 13

Dodgers win 14-13 on a last second hail Mary from Brody Biggs!

Wait a minute...This was a baseball game not a football game.

The Lunada Bay Dodgers continued their winning ways with a come-from-behind victory over the Rolling Hills A's at the Lunada Bay fields. Although they were missing their leading hitter for the game, the Dodgers managed to continue their strong hitting. The Dodgers had 13 hits on the night while scoring double digit runs for the third straight game.

Brody Biggs started the game off with some strong pitching, facing the minimum number of hitters over the first two innings and striking out 5. Thomas Jenkins made the sole put outmaking a good play on a grounder to 2nd.Meanwhile, the Dodgers struck for four runs in the first inning. Leif Krampert led off with a walk which was followed by a single by Brandon Nash. Brody then contributed to his cause with an RBI single for the first run of the game. With two runners on, Keaton Heise came to the plate and hit the Dodgers first homerun of the season, an inside the park drive that brought in 3 runs, giving the Dodgers a 4 run lead after one inning. Jesse Allen led off the 2nd inning with a single, but was unable to advance past 2nd base.

The A's bats came alive in the 3rd inning as they struck for 6 runs in the top half. Jeremy Adler came on to get the last two outs of the third inning and then struck out the A's in order in the 4th. After going down 6-4, the Dodgers responded in the bottom of the third with four more runs of their own tore-take the lead 8-6. Krampert, Nash, and Biggs each had singles. Heise then walked and Adler hit a 2 run single.

That was not the end of the A's for the night. The A's struck for 7 runs in the top of the 5th to take a commanding 13-8 lead. The Dodgers once again had the top of the order leading off. The two previous times, they had scored four runs in each inning. The A's retired the first two batters of the inning. This could have caused many other teams to give up hope, but not the Dodgers. Brody worked the pitcher for a walk to keep the inning alive, and Keaton and Jeremy followed with back to back RBI doubles to bring home two runs, leaving the Dodgers still down 13-10.

Brandon held the A's scoreless in the top of the sixth, giving the Dodgers one last chance in the bottom half. Down three runs with the bottom half of the order up might seem hopeless to some teams, but the Dodgers never give up. After the first batter struck out, Jesse managed to draw a walk. However he was erased on Jack Matson's fielders choice, 4-3, which left the Dodgers with only one out left. Daniel Basilios ran the count full, while Matson was able to work his way around to third. Down to their last strike, the Dodgers cheered for their teammate Daniel, and he was able to draw a walk to keep their hopes alive. Austin Nash came to the plate with runners on first and third. Matson scored on a wild pitch bringing the Dodgers a run closer at 13-11. Meanwhile, the count once again went full and the Dodgers were down to their last strike. Austin, however, earned a walk, bringing the top of the order back up, alon g with the Dodgers' hopes of a win. Leif hit the first pitch he saw for a single, plating Basilios, and the Dodgers were now down by only one run. Leif stole 2nd during Brandon's at bat, leaving runners at 2nd and third, with a count of one ball andtwo strikes on the hitter. The next pitch found Brandon's arm, and the bases were now loaded for Brody Biggs. Brody took a ball on the first pitch, then crushed the next pitch for a bases clearing, game winning double. The Dodgers ran out on the field to congratulate their hero. The victory moves the Dodgers into a tie for first with the Red Sox, who were idle on Saturday.

The game also saw some fine catching by Nolan Matura, Jack Matson, and Keaton Heise. Keaton also became the eighth player for the Dodgers to pitch this season.

The Dodgers will next be in action on Monday against the Lunada Bay Reds, weather permitting.

3/26/11

Dodgers 8 Silver Spur Yankees 9

Another close game but this time the Dodgers ended up on the wrong end of things.

Brody Biggs pitched 2 2/3 strong scoreless innings to start the game, and Patrick Shannon came in to get the last out of the third inning. The Dodgers bats started strong again in the first inning Leif Krampert led off with a walk and Brandon Nash, Brody Biggs, and Keaton Heise each followed with singles to get the Dodgers on the scoreboard. Patrick Shannon then smoked a triple and Jeremy Adler had another single. Unfortunately some base running errors cost some runs and the Dodgers only led 4-0 after the first.

In the second inning, Thomas Jenkins led off with a walk and came around to score on Nolan Matura's double making it 5-0.

The Dodgers again added a single run in the third when Keaton Heise scored on a double by Patrick Shannon.

After three innings, the Dodgers were in Command 6-0, but then came the dreaded 4th inning. Jack Matson had a single in the top of the fourth but his fellow Dodgers were unable to bring him home. The Yankees seemed to get some momentum from holding the Dodgers scoreless for the first time, and came alive in the bottom of the inning to score seven runs of their own. The Dodgers used three pitchers in the inning, before Brandon Nash was able to get the final out of the inning when Patrick Shannon made a running catch in left field.

Both teams held each other scoreless in the fifth inning, with Keaton Heise making a great play at catcher in the inning on a short pop foul.

That led to an exciting 6th inning. Down 7-6, Brody Biggs started the rally with a walk. Keaton Heise then delivered with a line drive home run over the center field fence to give the Dodgers the lead, 8-7. The Dodgers felt like they had another come from behind victory wrapped up, but the Yankees refused to quit. After getting the first out on a groundout to first, the Dodgers were only two outs away from victory. However, the number two through four hitters in the Yankee lineup came though for their team and delivered a 9-8 victory.

The Dodgers are back in action again on Monday on their two game road trip, this time facing the Silver Spur Angels.

3/28/11

The Lunada Bay Dodgers continued to put up football like numbers, with a 22-10 victory over the Silver Spur Angels. This was truly a team effort, with six different pitchers each pitching an inning in the game, and every member of the team reaching base safely in the game. The Dodgers had 24 hits for their 22 runs.

In the top of the first, Brandon Nash and Brody Bigggs each had singles, and Keaton Heise followed with a double to drive them both in. Patrick Shannon, Jeremy Adler, and Nolan Matura then all followed with singles to keep the Dodgers rounding the base paths. Austin Nash drove in the 6th and final run of the inning with a single.

Austin then took the mound for the bottom of the first and retired the Angels in order on 10 pitches. Brody Biggs made all three plays at shortstop. The first batter was out by a step on a strong throw by Biggs. The second batter then hit a hard grounder to Biggs who fired high and wide to first, but Brandon Nash made a great stretch to snag the ball and still hold his foot on the bag. The final out was a line drive to short.

This Dodgers team has learned that 6 runs is never enough, so they kept working hard in the 2nd inning. Daniel Basilios led off the inning with a hard earned walk after fouling off several tough pitches. With two outs, Brandon Nash also drew a walk. Brody Biggs then followed with a double to bring in both runners. Keaton Heise then traded places with Brody with a double of his own and it was 9-0. the Dodgers would have had more runs if not for a great play by the Angels second baseman to retire Patrick Shannon.

Nolan Matura pitched the 2nd inning and started by striking out the Angels #4 hitter. As has been the case this season, the opposing team wasn't going to go without a fight.

Despite some great pitching from Nolan, the Angels kept hitting it where the Dodgers were not and put 7 runs of their own across the plate to make it 9-7. Matura did record three strikeouts in the inning!

The Dodgers bats went back to work in the top of the third inning. Adler and Matura each had singles to start the inning, and Matson followed with a walk. Austin Nash then had an RBI single. Once again the Angels 2nd baseman prevented a huge inning by snaring a hard hit ball up the middle robbing Thomas Jenkins of a hit and doubling Austin Nash off first. The Dodgers did get 3 runs in the inning to open up a little breathing room at 12-7.

Jeremy Adler came in to pitch the third inning for his third appearance of the season. After giving up a lead off single and a walk to the first two hitters, Jeremy settled in and retired the next batter on a fly ball to Brandon Nash in centerfield. With runners on first and second, Jeremy then struck out the next hitter. The bases were loaded after a walk, when Jeremy slammed the door shut with another strikeout.

In the fourth inning, the Dodgers added six more runs, with Heise and Matura having key doubles. This brought the score to 18-7, and the fourth pitcher of the night, Patrick Shannon took the mound. With runners on first and third, the Dodgers turned in another fine defensive play to aid Shannon's cause. On a slow roller to shortstop, Leif Krampert charged hard and made the throw to first to get theout. Then, an alert Brody Biggs noticed the runner trying to go from first to third on the play, and he gunned the ball over to Jack Matson who applied the tag for a 6-3-5 double play. Shannon got the final out of the inning on a fly ball to first base and escaped giving up only two runs to make it 18-9.

Thomas Jenkins started off the fifth inning by crushing a ball to centerfield for a single after being robbed of a hit in his previous at bat. he then used his base running skills to get to third and scored on an RBI ground out by Daniel Basilios. Jessie Allen got things started again with a single. Allen advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Brandon Nash then hit a ball to the outfield. The Angels center fielder threw home to try to get Allen at the plate. The throw was too late and Brandon took off for 2nd as the throw came in. The Angels threw to second, but the throw was high and Brandon came all the way around to score. Biggs then walked and scored on a hit by Heise. Four more runs brought the score to 22-9. Brody Biggs pitched the bottom of the 5th with his usual heat. He faced only four hitters struck out two, and allowed no runs.

The Angels were finally able to quiet the Dodgers bats in the top of the 6th inning, allowing no runs. Daniel Basilios made his pitching debut in the bottom of the sixth inning. Daniel looked good on the mound, striking out the very first hitter he faced! After allowing a walk and a hit, he then fanned the next hitter and got the final out on a ground ball to 2nd base, with the play being made Nash to Nash. Daniel became the 9th player to pitch for the Dodgers this year!

The Dodgers now head into the Spring break at 4-2 and tied for first place with the Red Sox.

4/13/2011

Dodgers 10 Palos Verdes Red Sox 6

Although the Dodgers were on an extended spring break that lasted through the third inning of their game on Wednesday, they managed to snap out of it in time to earn their fifth victory of the season, 10-6 vs. the Palos Verdes Red Sox.

Brandon Nash started the game on the mound for the Dodgers and despite pitching well, the Red Sox managed to push three runs across the plate to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. In the bottom of the first, Brandon helped his own cause by getting on base with a double and scoring on Brody Biggs sharp single back at the pitcher. After being hit in the face, the Red Sox pitcher showed incredible toughness by staying in the game and striking out the next two Dodger hitters to end the inning.

In the top of the 2nd, the Red Sox scrapped for another run off Brandon with a runner reaching base on a hit by pitch and coming around to score on an overthrow to third on an attempted steal. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Red Sox pitchers continued to catch the Dodgers hitters on break, striking out the side in order and keeping the score at 4-1 Red Sox.

Jeremy Adler took the mound for the Dodgers in the third inning and once again the Red Sox got the lead runner on base with a walk. The next hitter stroked a single putting runners on the corners with no outs. Jeremy settled down and got the next hitter to ground to Brandon Nash at shortstop who threw to Thomas Jenkins who was covering at 2nd for the first out of the inning. The runner scored from third, but that would be the only run of the inning. Brandon and Thomas almost connected again on the next play, but the runner was safe at 2nd on a close play. Jeremy then shut them down by fielding a fly ball himself and Patrick Shannon made the play unassisted at first for the final out of the inning. Energized by his play in the field, Thomas reached base with a single in the bottom of the third and came around to score on Patrick Shannon's RBI single. Brandon Nash then drew a walk and both runners stole, bringing Brody Biggs to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Brody once again hit the ball hard up the middle, but the Red Sox center fielder made a great play on a sinking line drive preserving the 5-2 lead for the Red Sox.

Patrick Shannon started on the mound in the 4th inning and pitched well but couldn't get a call to go his way. Brody Biggs came on in relief and held theRed Soxto only one run in the inning, keeping the Dodgers within striking distance. Nolan Matura made a great catch in right field for the 2nd out of the inning while running back towards the fence preventing a big inning. Brody then took matters into his own hands, making the play unassisted at home on a comebacker to the mound with the bases loaded. Nolan's great catch seemed to jolt the Dodgers out of their spring break slumber in the bottom of the 4th. Keaton Heise got the inning started with a hard earned walk on a 3-2 count. Leif Krampert then followed with a single. Austin Nash came to the plate and hit a solid single to drive in both Keaton and the speedy Leif making it 6-4. Jack Matson then took one for the team to reach first base. Austin and Jack moved over to 2nd and 3rd on the wild pitch, and Tho mas Jenkins came through with a well hit ground ball to shortstop. Despite being out on a close play, he drove in two runs to tie the score at 6 and send the fans into a frenzy of excitement. Daniel Basilios started things again, reaching base when he was hit by a pitch. Patrick Shannon followed with a single, and Brandon Nash then drove them both in with a line drive to right-center for a double. Brody Biggs followed with an RBI double of his own and the Dodgers had roared back to life to take a 10-6 lead.

Brody quickly got the first two outs of the 5th inning with balls hit back to him, and heldthe Red Soxto no runs in the inning.Brody struckout the final batter to end the inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Dodgers were unable to score in the bottom of the 5th despite a walk by Leif.

Brody Biggs finished the game on the hill allowing no runs in the top of the sixth, preserving the victory for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are now in first place in the Lunada Bay standings at 5-2 and next face the Lunada Bay Giants on Saturday in a re-match of the Dodgers first gameof the season.

April 16th

Giants 20 Dodgers 7

The Dodgers have hit a little rough patch in their schedule. A combination of injuries, three games in 6 days, and some bad luck came together in a perfect storm over the past two games for the Dodgers.

In a big game against the Giants on Saturday, The Dodgers swung the bats better than they did in the first game, but this time our pitchers had a hard time finding the plate. Jeremy Adler started the game and settled down after a rough start to strike outthe last two batters of the inning and escape with the Dodgers only trailing 2-0. However, due to another game in only two days, the Dodgers had to limit pitch counts and change pitchers. Thomas Jenkins reached on a walk in the 2nd inning, but was stranded at 2nd. Unfortunately in the 2nd inning there seemed to be aforce field around the strikezone for the Dodger pitchers, and14 walks in the inningwere too much to overcome. Austin Nash did a great job, coming in as the third pitcher of the inning and striking out two to get out of it, but the damage had been done with 13 runs given up in the inning.

However, theseDodgers never quit. They came back in the top of the third and scored 7 runs of their own. Daniel Basilios got things started with a single. Jessie Allen and Jack Matson then followed with singles of their own. that brought up the top of the order. Patrick Shannon delivered with a 2 run single, and Leif Krampert followed with a base clearing 2 RBI triple. The hit parade continued with an RBI double by Brody Biggs, and a single by Keaton Heise. Austin Nash then reached on a walk, and Nolan Matura singled in the final run of the inning making the score 15-7.

Everyone participated in a tough game including Brandon Nash who kept score while on the disabled list.

April 18th

SS Padres 14 Dodgers 2

With only one days rest and a depleted pitching staff, the Dodgers dropped a tough game to the 1st place Padres. The Padres had not played on the previous Saturday so their pitchers were well rested, and with no game until the following Saturday, they only used two pitchers on the night.

the Dodgers started strong with a two out rally in the top of the first. Brody Biggs had a double, and Keaton Heise and Jeremy Adler followed with singles brining in one run for the Dodgers. Austin Nash started on the mound for the Dodgers, After the first three runners reached base, Brandon Nash made a diving catch ofa foul ball at first to get the first out of the inning. Leif Krampert made a good play at 2nd and Austin struck out the next batter for the final out of the inning leaving the game at 2-1.

In the 2nd, Austin led off with a walk, but was stranded at 2nd base. Patrick Shannon came in to pitch the 2nd inning and pitched well, but the ball just seemed to have eyes, and find a waybetween the Dodgers fielders. Good plays were turned in by Jack Matson at catcher, who tagged a runner out at home by blocking the plate, Daniel Basilios who tagged a runner out at third, and Brandon and Austin Nash who combined for an out at 2nd. That left the score at 8-1.

The Dodgers got one run back in the 3rd when Patrick crushed a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Jeremy Adler took the mound in the third, and quickly struck out the first two batters giving the Dodgers some hope of a comeback. Jesse Allen tagged a runner out at third to get the final out of the inning, however, some bad breaks, and a couple of questionable calls led to 4 padres runs making it 12-2.

In the 4th, 5th and 6th innings, the Dodgers lead off hitters, Jeremy, Thomas Jenkins, and Patrick each managed to get on base, but unfortunately they could not be brought home. Brody Biggs did a great job pitching the last two and a third innings giving up only two runs.

The Dodgers will look to end their two game slide with a 4:30 game against the PV Indians at Lunada Bay Saturday.

4/23/11

The "never say die" Dodgers earned a hard fought come from behind victory on Saturday, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to defeat the PV Indidans 16-15. Both teams scored at least one run in every half inning making for an exciting game. The Dodgers showed a true team effort, with every player reaching base safely, and scoring at least one run.
Brody Biggs started on the mound and gave up a lead off single, to the Indians, but limited them to one run in the inning, striking out two batters. The Dodgers stormed back in the in the bottom of the first. Brandon Nash and Leif Krampert each had singles to start the game, and Brody followed with 2 run triple to put the Dodgers ahead. KeatonHeise then drilled a ball high and deep to straight-away center field which hit half way up the fence for a run scoring double. Austin Nash drove Keaton in with a ground ball to first, and it was 4-1 Dodgers at the end of the first.
Walks and fielding errors by the Dodgers hurt Brody's cause in the 2nd inning, and the Indians came right back with 5 runs to take a 6-4 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Thomas Jenkins led off with a walk and he came in to score on Brandon's single to bring the Dodgers within one run of the Indians.
Jeremy Adler
came in to pitch in the middle of the third inning and did a good job to get out of a bases loaded jam giving up only one run.Daniel Basilios made two good plays at third base to prevent any further damage. Brody led off the bottom of the third with his 2nd triple on the night, and Keaton drove him in with a single, keeping it a one run game at 7-6 Indians.
A walk to the lead off hitter resulted in another run for the Indians in the top of the 4th, but Jeremy struck out the Indians #6 hitter to leave the bases loaded for the 2nd inning in a row. Jesse Allen got things started in the bottom of the 4th with a single, and scored on Daniel's RBI single. Daniel was able to make his way around the bases with some good base running to score the 2nd run of the inning and knot the game at 8-8.
Brandon pitched the 5th inning and Nolan Matura made a great play on a hard hit ball to 2nd base to get the 1st out of the inning. After a walk and a single, Brandon struck out the Indians #10 hitter for the 2nd out of the inning and it looked like the Dodgers might finally blank the Indians in an inning. However, some timely hitting by the top of the Indians batting order resulted in 5 runs scoring and the Indians surged ahead 13-8. The Dodgers kept themselves in the game with 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th. < B>Keaton and Jeremy had singles with one out in the inning and Austin followed with an RBI single. Nolan then knocked in 2 runs with a double, and came around to score the final run of the inning on a pass ball.
The 6th inning saw Nolan once again start things off with a great play, this time catching a line drive in center field. after a couple of singles and a walk, Keaton made a nice play at catcher, tagging a runner out at home for the 2nd out of the inning. Another single and a fielding mistake brought up the #3 hitter for the Indians. Thomas Jenkins made a great running catch of a fly ball in right field to end the half inning at 15-12, setting up the Dodgers for their late game heroics. Daniel began the comeback with a key single and Jack Matson ran the count to 3-2. After fighting off a tough pitch, Jack earned his third walk of t he night bringing up the top of the lineup with no outs. Brandon delivered with an RBI single making it 15-13. The Indians got the next two hitters out with a strikeout and a ground out, but one run came home in the process. With the Dodgers down to their last out, and the tying run on third, Keaton smashed a ball between third and shortstop to bring Brandon home tying the score. That brought Jeremy to the plate. Keaton stole second base, and Jeremy then drove the next pitch to the same spot between 3rd and short bringing Keaton home for the game winning run.

The Dodgers moved back into first place with the win and next face the Lunada Bay Red Sox in an important league matchup Wednesday night.

Dodgers 13   Red Sox 12

The Dodgers continued their come from behind ways, with an exciting 13-12 win against the tough as nails Red Sox.

It looked like starting pitcher Brody Biggs was going to sail through the first inning when he quickly retired the first two Red Sox hitters on a ground ball to Brandon Nash at shortstop, and a strikeout. However, a Dodger error kept the inning alive, and the Red Sox  took advantage by getting key hits for a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Dodgers made up for it with two in the bottom of the inning. Brandon  led off with a double to left-center, and scored on Brody’s ground ball to shortstop two hitters later. Keaton Heise kept things going with a two out single and Jeremy Adler came through with an RBI double.

Brody needed only 12 pitches in the 2nd inning, with another grounder to Brandon at short, and two strikeouts for a 1-2-3 inning. Nolan Matura led off the bottom of the 2nd with a hard earned walk, and worked his way around to third before scoring on Thomas Jenkins RBI ground out making it 3-2 Dodgers.

Brody sandwiched two more strikeouts around a single by the Red Sox in the third before he ran out of pitches. Leif Krampert came in in relief, and did a good job holding the Red Sox to one run before striking out a batter to end the inning.  In the bottom half of the third, Brandon had a single, but was caught stealing on a great throw by the Red Sox catcher. Leif then got the two out rally started with a single to left. Brody followed with a single, and Keaton came through with a single to score two, putting the Dodgers on top 5-3.

The Red Sox showed they meant business in the 4th inning, scoring 6 runs before Austin Nash came in to shut things down with back to back strike outs and a groundball to Keaton at first to end the inning. Fired up about their big comeback, the Red Sox continued their sparkling defense. Austin was robbed of a hit to lead off the inning when the Red Sox shortstop leaped high to snare a hard hit line drive. The Red Sox pitcher then got in on the act, reacting quickly to catch Nolan’s drive up the middle for the 2nd out. Daniel Basilios then followed with a single to center. Thomas followed with a double to right-center, but the Red sox defense came through again with a solid relay to get the third out at home and prevent any Dodgers runs.

In the top of the 5th, the first two Red Sox hitters got on with walks, so the Dodgers closer, Brandon , came in to try to keep his team within striking distance. He retired the first two batters he faced with a grounder to Brody at first and a pop up to the pitcher, but as often is the case, the lead off walks came in to score when the next hitter came through with a double. Brandon prevented any further damage by getting the next hitter to ground to Leif at short. That left the Dodgers down 11-5 and missing both their #5 hitter due to an injury in the 4th inning, and big hitter Patrick Shannon who was on vacation. Most teams would tend to fold after that, but not the 2011 Dodgers. The Dodgers #10 hitter, Jesse Allen got things started with a walk, and Jack Matson reached first on a fielder’s choice. Brandon came up and drove Jack in with a triple, and then scored himself, when the  throw  got away. Leif kept things going with a single and Brody followed with a double. Keaton then walked on four pitches to load the bases. The Red Sox pitcher struck out the next Dodger batter for the 2nd out which raised the tension level a notch. Nolan stroked a huge two run double for the Dodgers to narrow the score to 11-9. Daniel then followed with a key two run single to knot the score at 11 and the Dodgers fans went wild. Thomas came up next and worked the count to  3-2 and fouled off a tough pitch to stay alive. Thomas kept the inning alive with a walk, which brought up Jesse for the 2nd time in the inning. With the game on the line, Jesse came through with a bases clearing triple to complete the comeback and put the Dodgers ahead 13-11 at the end of the 5th inning.

The Red Sox fought back in the top of the 6th just as they did all game. Their lead-off hitter came through with a double, but Brandon kept his cool knowing that he had a two run lead, and retired the next three hitters in order. Brandon set the defensive example, fielding a grounder back to the mound and throwing to first for the first out. His brother Austin then followed his lead making a great play on a ground ball up the middle and firing to first to get the next out and prevent the tying run from getting on base. Brandon then finished things off with a strikeout and the team breathed a sigh of relief. That was the Dodgers 5th one run game of the season and the 4th one run win, to bring their record to 7-4. The Red Sox were one of the most fundamentally sound teams the Dodgers have faced this season. Their pitchers only walked four in the game and made the Dodgers earn the victory with their bats.

The Dodgers travel to Silver Spur on Saturday to take on their cross town rival Dodgers team.

LB Dodgers 17   SS Dodgers 4

The Lunada Bay Dodgers finally achieved what they had been working on the whole season, a solid night both at bat, and in the field. The result, a 17-4 win against the Silver Spur Dodgers at Ernie Howlett Park.

Brandon Nash jump-started the hot-hitting Dodgers attack with an inside-the-park home run on an 0-2 pitch. Patrick Shannon then picked up where he left off after a week in Maui, with a single. Another RBI triple by Brody Biggs brought Patrick home. Keaton Heise’s hard hit single brought Brody home. Jeremy Adler followed with a walk. After both runners moved up a base, Nolan Matura came through with a two run triple. Thomas Jenkins did his part to keep the inning g oing with a walk, and Jesse Allen came through with an RBI single. The LB Dodgers sent 11 men to the plate in the first and jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Brody took the mound in the bottom of the first and faced four hitters, getting the #4 hitter to strike out to end the inning. Jeremy and Brandon made good plays on ground balls in the inning, and Keaton made a great stretch at first to record one of the outs.

Austin Nash led off the top of the 2nd with a single and Brandon made it “twin singles” to put runners at first and third. Austin scored on Patrick’s single. Brody followed with a fielder’s choice to shortstop that brought Brandon in to score.  Keaton then drove Brody in with a two run triple. Jeremy pushed another run across the plate with ground out to third. Leif Krampert crushed the team’s third triple of the game, but was left stranded. The SS Dodgers fought back in the bottom of the 2nd. The first three hitters reached base on a single, walk, and double. The next batter hit a ball deep in the hole to shortstop. The quick throw to first was wide of the bag, but Patrick quickly retrieved the ball and fired to Brody in the middle of the field who then relayed the ball quickly across the diamond to Jesse at third who tagged out the runner trying to sneak an extra base. That play fired up the defense and the next two hitters were retired on a pop foul to first that Patrick snared, and a strikeout, shutting the SS Dodgers down at three runs.

Both teams held each other scoreless in the third inning. The LB Dodgers loaded the bases on a single by Jesse, and back to back walks to Jack Matson, and Austin, but were unable to add to their lead. Brody then retired the SS Dodgers in order in the bottom half. The second batter reached base with a single, but was quickly erased when Keaton fired a dart to Leif who tagged out the runner attempting to steal second base.

The LB Dodgers added two runs in the top of the 4th inning to add a little breathing room. Brody got things started with a screaming single up the middle. Keaton then hit the teams 4th triple of the game to drive in Brody. There must be something that is attracting all the players to third base!  Keaton scored easily on Jeremy’s RBI double. Only a great play by the SS Dodger third base man on Nolan’s hard hit ball prevented further damage. Brody pitched so efficiently the first three innings, he returned to the mound for the fourth.  Once again he only faced three batters. He struck out the first hitter. Then, the next hitter reached on a walk. The runner worked his way around to third, and tried to score on a wild pitch, but Nolan quickly pounced on the ball and flipped to Brody who covered home and easily tagged the runner out. Brody then finished things off with his 5th and final strikeout of the night. That left the score 12-3.

The LB Dodgers have seen a lot of comebacks from the teams they have faced this year, so they have learned that no lead is too big. The team added another insurance run in the top of the 5th. Daniel Basilios led off with a walk, but was erased on Thomas’s fielder’s choice to the shortstop. Jesse followed with a walk of his own, and Austin drove Thomas in with his 2nd single of the night. Nolan took the mound for the third time this season and did a great job. He retired the first batter on a ground ball to Daniel at third. The next batter singled, but Nolan shut them down with a comebacker to the mound and a strikeout to end the inning, stranding the runner at 2nd base.

The LB Dodgers hitters continued to play smart baseball while hitting in the top of the 6th. Patrick earned a walk to start things off. Keaton also walked, and Leif and Nolan each had RBI singles. Daniel then crushed a ball for a double to drive in two runs but was barely thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple. Jeremy took the mound in the bottom of the sixth as the closer for the first time. After the first two runners reached base, Jeremy settled down and struck out the SS Dodgers number three hitter for the first out of the inning. Jeremy got the final out on a good running catch by Leif in right field, giving up only one run and bringing the final score to 17-4.

The LB Dodgers are now 8-4 and return to their home field for a game on Wednesday against the ever improving LB Reds.

May 4, 2011

The Dodgers continued their winning ways on Wednesday by slowly pulling away from the Lunada Bay Reds in a 16-3 contest.

Hitting first as the away team, Brandon Nash led off the game with a single, and advanced to third on Patrick Shannon’s single. Brody Biggs then hit into a fielder’s choice which retired Patrick for the first out, but brought Brandon home with the first run of the game. Keaton Heise followed with a walk and after both runners advanced, Leif Krampert brought them home with a sharply hit single. Leif was then able to work his way all the way around to home with some heads up base running. Brody once again was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers, and the Reds showed they were going to fight back. The first two Reds reached base on infield singles and came around to score, making it 4-2 Dodgers after one inning.

In the top of the 2nd inning, Thomas Jenkins and Jack Matson had back to back walks with one out. Jack was retired on a fielder’s choice, and Thomas moved over to third. Patrick then had a clutch single to bring in Thomas and extend the lead to 5-2. The Reds pitcher then did a good job to end the inning, getting Brody to send a check swing grounder to first. After the first Red reached on an error, Brody took things into his own hands and retired the next three hitters in a row on strikeouts.

Keaton led off the 3rd inning with a single, and came all the way around to score with some smart base running. Austin Nash was able to draw a walk, but the Reds again limited the Dodgers to just one run in the inning to keep it a close game. Brody started the bottom half of the inning with his fourth straight strikeout, then got the leadoff hitter to ground to Austin at 2nd base for the 2nd out of the inning. The next Reds batter then sent a screaming line drive down to third that Daniel Basilios managed to knock down with his glove, turning a sure extra base hit into an infield single. The next hitter then grounded to Austin again, who applied the tag to the runner going from 1st to 2nd to get the final out of the inning.

Thomas and Jack then came through again for the Dodgers with a walk and a single to get the 4th inning rally started for the Dodgers. Brandon then drove both of them in with a double. Brody  brought Brandon in with the third run of the inning with a triple, but he was thrown out on a close play at the plate trying to stretch it into an inside the park home run. The Reds made a great relay from the right fielder to the 2nd baseman to catcher for the out. Keaton then singled, but was stranded. That opened up the lead to 9-2, but the way the Dodgers have given up some big inni ngs this year, the game was far from over. Having only used 39 pitches in the first three innings, Brody went back out to start the 4th inning and was just about as efficient as a pitcher can be. He retired the Reds on 7 pitches with a comebacker to the mound, a strikeout, and a fly ball to Brandon at shortstop.

The Dodgers consistent hitting attack continued in the 5th inning. Leif led off with a single and used his speed to score the first run of the inning. Daniel earned a walk after fighting off several tough pitches, and Thomas followed with a single. Daniel and Thomas both made their way around the bases and scored on pass balls to give the Dodgers 12 runs in the game. Patrick then came in to pitch the 5th inning. Patrick did a great job, using only 10 pitches to retire the Reds. He got the first batter on a grounder to pitcher, then the next two batters had singles putting runners at 1st and 2nd with one out. The following  batter grounded out to Brandon at first, moving the runners to 2nd and third with two outs. Patrick then prevented any Reds runs by getting the next batter to strikeout.

Sending 8 batters to the plate in the top of the 6th, the Dodgers scored four more runs. Brody and Keaton led off with walks, and Jeremy Adler drove in one run with a single. Leif then followed with a double to bring in two more runs, and finished things off by scoring on a pass ball. Thomas then made his pitching debut for the Dodgers and did a great job facing the top of the Reds lineup. After walking the first batter he faced, Thomas struck out the Reds #2 hitter for the first out of the inning which fired up his team mates. The next batter he faced hit a double to score a run, but Thomas came right back and got the Reds #4 hitter to ground to Austin at 2nd base for the 2nd out of the inning. Thomas then closed out the game by striking out the next batter, stranding the runner at third and making the final score 16-3.

The Dodgers coaches are very proud of the way the boys have started to come together as a team. They are beginning to back each other up in the field and cheer each other on in the game. The team was missing Nolan and Jesse today, but hopes to have them back soon.

The Dodgers are now 9-4 and will be at Lunada Bay again on Saturday as they face the PV Reds at 4:30.

Dodgers 19   PV Reds 0

Just when you thought the Dodgers had played their best game, they go and outdo themselves with an even better one! The Dodgers went into the night expecting a tough game from the 7-4-1 Reds, but with some great pitching and defense, the Dodgers were able to shutout the Reds, facing only 3 batters over the minimum and allowing no runner past first base! Brody Biggs, Patrick Shannon and Jesse Allen combined on a one-hitter!

Brody Biggs started on the mound, and got the Reds lead-off hitter to pop out to Jeremy Adler at third. The next batter was able to draw a walk, but he was quickly erased when Keaton Heise threw the runner out trying to steal 2nd base. Brody then finished things with a strikeout. Patrick Shannon got things started for the Dodgers in the bottom of the 1st with a single. After Patrick advanced  to 2nd, Brody drove Patrick in with a double for the first run of the game. Jeremy  then brought Brody home with an RBI single, and it was 2-0 after one inning.

Brody picked up where he left off, striking out the fist Reds hitter of the 2nd inning. The next batter lined out to Brody on the very next pitch. After allowing a two out walk, Brody then struck out the next batter. The Dodgers hit around in the bottom of the 2nd inning to score six runs and open up an 8-0 lead. Thomas Jenkins started the inning with a single, and Austin Nash singled as well putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Jesse Allen drove in Thomas with a single, and Austin advance to third on the play. SuperSub Sutter Leach then walked to load the bases for the top of the order. Brandon Nash and Patrick each took one for the team, bringing in two more runs. Brody forced Sutter in with a walk on a 3-2 pitch. Brandon then scored on a wild pitch, and Jeremy drove in Patrick for the final run of the inning with a single.

Brody had a 1-2-3 top of the third, with a pop fly that he took himself, and two more strikeouts. The Reds pitcher kept his team in the game with some good pitching of his own. After striking out the final two Dodgers in the 2nd inning, he struck out all three Dodgers in the 3rd inning for five strikeouts in a row to maintain the 8-0 score.

With the top of the Reds lineup coming up, and having only thrown 41 pitches, Brody went back out to the mound for the top of the 4th. The lead-off hitter had the Reds first hit of the game with a single. Brody went back to work and struck out the next batter and then made a good play on a ground ball and fired to Brandon at 2nd to get the lead runner. The final Reds hitter rolled a grounder to Brody who flipped to Sutter at first for the final out. Brandon got things going in the bottom of the 4th with a single. Patrick followed with another single, and Keaton walked to load the bases. Jeremy then had his third straight RBI single of the game, and Leif Krampert drove in Patrick and Keaton with a two run single. After Jeremy scored on a pass ball, Austin had his own RBI single to bring in Leif with the 5th run of the inning making it 13-0.

Patrick relieved Brody to start the 5th inning, and continued the hot Dodgers pitching needing only 10 pitches to retire the side. He fielded the first grounder himself to get the first out, and then struck out the next Reds hitter. Jesse made a fine play on a grounder to third, firing just in time to first to get the final out of the inning. Brandon got things started again for the Dodgers in the bottom of the fifth with a one out single. Patrick walked, and Brody tomahawked the next pitch up the middle for an RBI single. Keaton followed with a two run double. The Reds catcher made a nice catch of a pop foul for the 2nd out of the inning, but then Leif followed with a walk, and Thomas had an RBI single. Austin was then hit by a pitch, and Jesse followed with a single for his 2nd RBI of the game. Sutter capped off the scoring with his first hit as an intermediate.

Jesse came in as the closer in the top of the 6th inning. This was Jesse’s first appearance as a pitcher this season, but you wouldn’t know it from the way he pitched. Like the other Dodger pitchers on the night, he did a lot of the work himself. Jesse got the first hitter to pop out to the pitcher. After walking the 2nd batter on a 3-2 count, he came back to strike out the next hitter for the 2nd out. To cap off a great game, Brody then took two steps to his left and leaped high to snare a line drive out of the sky for the final out of the game preserving the Dodgers one hitter!

The Dodgers improved to 10-4 on the season with the win, and have the rest of the week off before facing the PV Mets at Lunada Bay on Saturday. Game time is 4:30.

PV Mets 10  Dodgers 0

Missing four of their regular starters, and two coaches, was too much for the Dodgers to overcome today and they dropped a tough 10-0 game to the first place PV Mets.

The Dodgers started off strong with Brody Biggs on the mound. He retired the Mets hitters 1-2-3 in the first on a groundout to Patrick Shannon at first, a strikeout, and a comebacker to the mound. Brody then had a big double in the bottom half of the inning, but the Dodgers were unable to take advantage of it.

Brody continued to pitch well for the first 3 1/3 innings, giving up four tough luck runs on 3 hits. Patrick  then came on in relief, and got the final two outs of the fourth inning on just two pitches, keeping the Dodgers in the game. Unfortunately the Dodgers bats were not cooperating on this night. Thomas Jenkins had a double in the 5th inning and Trevor Griffiths, filling in from the minors, and Leif Krampert , each had singles in the 6th, but could not find their way home.

Patrick pitched well the rest of the game but things just were not going the Dodgers way, and the Mets pulled away with three runs in the 5th and 6th innings.

This reporter was not able to attend the game, but he heard that Sutter Leach, filling in from the minors for the 2nd time for the Dodgers also made a great play at first base.

The Dodgers will be back close to full strength for their next game against the RH Pirates on Wed. May 18th.

Dodgers 8  RH Pirates 3

The Dodgers turned things back around tonight, and put in a strong team performance to defeat the Rolling Hills Pirates 8-3.

The Dodgers wasted no time, breaking their scoreless drought in the top of the first. Leif Krampert got things started with a walk. He then scored all the way from first on Brody Biggs RBI tomahawk double. Brody was able to advance to third while Keaton Heise ran the count full against the Pirates starter, and then scored on Keaton’s groundout to shortstop making it 2-0. Brody stated the game on the mound and held the Pirates scoreless in the bottom half with a strikeout, and groundout to Keaton at first to start the inning. After a single by the Pirates #3 hitter, Brody got their cleanup hitter to groundout to Keaton to end the inning.

Thomas Jenkins was able to get on with a walk in the 2nd inning and advance as far as 2nd, but he was stranded. Brody continued his efficient pitching in the bottom half. Thomas made a nice play on a grounder to 2nd, and Jesse Allen made a great play on a bouncing ball between third and short, throwing to first just in time to get the runner. Brody then finished things off himself with a comebacker to the mound.

It was a quick third inning, with the Dodgers going down 1-2-3, and Brody striking out the side in the bottom half of the inning with a walk in between the 2nd and third outs. That left the score still tight at 2-0, and it was anyone’s game.

The Dodgers opened up a little breathing room in the 4th inning with three runs. Leif started things with a single. After Brody grounded out to third, Keaton came up and drilled a 1-2 pitch on a line over the left-centerfield fence for his 2nd homerun of the year. Austin Nash then had a single, and was able to score the final run of the inning on Nolan Matura’s single. Brody started the 4th inning with 7 pitches left. He retired the first two batters he faced on five pitches. Jesse made another nice play at third, throwing to Brandon Nash who made a great stretch at first to just get the runner. Brody ran out of pitches, and Jeremy Adler came on in relief with a 2-0 count on the hitter. After walking that batter, Jeremy was able to get the Pirates cleanup hitter to hit a soft  flyball behind 2nd base that Leif was able to get under and catch for the final out of the inning, keeping the score 5-0.

The Pirates pitcher made quick work of the Dodgers hitters in the top of the 5th inning. Jeremy came back to start the bottom of the 5th on the mound. After a walk to the leadoff hitter, a pair of Dodgers errors, hurt Jeremy’s cause, bringing in the Pirate’s first run. Two more walks brought in the 2nd run of the inning. Brandon came on in relief of Jeremy with the bases loaded and no outs and the Pirate’s only down three runs. After getting a big strikeout for the first out of the inning, Brandon reacted quickly to a hard hit ball up the middle, snared it and threw to Jack Matson at home to get the lead runner for the 2nd out and prevent a run from scoring. On the next pitch, Daniel Basilios made a good play on a hard hit grounder, and stepped on third for the final out of the inning, keeping the Dodgers up 5-2.

Brandon helped his own cause by leading off the top of the 6th with a single to right. Leif then followed with another single and the runners moved up to 2nd as Brody ran the count full at the plate. Brody then connected on a shot down the right field line which would have been at least an RBI double, but the umpire claimed Brody stepped out of the batter’s box when he hit it, and called him out for the first out of the inning. Keaton then took charge and lashed a single to bring in two runs and open up the game again. Jeremy then picked the perfect time for his first hit of the game, driving in Keaton and making it 8-2. Brandon came out to the mound to close things out in the bottom of the sixth, and stuck out the Pirates #2 hitter. The #3 hitter then grounded back to Brandon who threw to Brody at first for the 2nd out. The next hitter then grounded to Leif at short and it looked like the game was over, but the umpire said that Brody’s foot was off the bag. Leif then made another good play on a high hop off of Brandon’s glove. He flipped the ball to Austin at 2nd, but the umpire again called him safe. After the lead Pirate runner stole home to make it 8-3, Brandon shut the door with a strikeout, ending the game.

Dodgers 18   Red Sox 5

The Dodgers faced a tough Red Sox team for the 2nd time this season, having only won by one run in their first meeting. Holding a slim ½ game lead in the standings, the Dodgers were also facing an 8:00 in the morning game for the first time this season. Having played every game this season at 4:00 or later in the afternoon, the question was whether the Dodgers would wake up in time.

The early start showed in the first. The normally fast starting Dodgers were slow out of the gate. Brody Biggs got a single with two outs in the inning, but was stranded at third by some good pitching by the Red Sox’s Colin Palmer. Brody took the mound for the bottom of the 1st, and the Red Sox jumped on him quickly. Kyle McCann battled Brody for a lead-off walk. Brody then struck out the next batter, but Cody Kim then drove a ball to right field, and used his speed for an inside the park homerun and a quick 2-0 lead. Max Buehler followed with a triple and the Red Sox had Brody’s attention. Brody struck out the next two batters t o end the inning, but not before Max was able to come in to score and give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.

The Dodgers bats slowly began to wake up in the 2nd inning. Nolan Matura battled for a walk on a 3-2 pitch, but he was erased for the 2nd out of the inning on a fine play by the Red Sox catcher who fielded a swinging bunt by Austin Nash and threw to 2nd for the 2nd out of the inning. Jesse Allen kept the inning alive with a walk, and Thomas Jenkins came through with a key RBI single to score Austin and get the Dodgers on the scoreboard. Cody Kim did a good job on the mound to shut down the Dodgers rally with a strikeout to end the inning and keep the score 3-1. Brody picked up where he left off, strik ing out the side in the bottom of the inning.

Daniel Basilios led off the third inning with a walk and Brandon Nash followed with another walk on a 3-2 pitch. The runners moved up to 2nd and third with no outs. Patrick Shannon then drove a ball deep to centerfield, but Kyle McCann made a good catch for the first out. Brody followed with another drive to center and McCann again made the catch, but Daniel was able to tag up and score from third and Brandon advanced to third on the throw. Keaton Heise brought Brandon home with a double, and the g ame was all tied up at 3. Brody took the mound and continued his dominant pitching, striking out the first two batters he faced to make it 7 in a row that he struck out. However, Brody had to leave the game with the count 2-0 on Kyle McCann in order to allow him to pitch in the next game. Patrick came on in relief, and was greeted with back to back singles by McCann and McKay. However, he was able to get the dangerous Kim to pop out to Brandon at first to end the inning.

The 4th inning has been a tough inning for the Dodgers more than once this season, but today they made it their inning, exploding for 8 runs. Nolan got the inning started with another walk, and Austin then had a single to put runners on first and second. Jesse hit into a fielder’s choice 6-4 putting runners at the corners with one out. Thomas came through again with his 2nd RBI single in as many at bats, and the Dodgers had the lead. Jack Matson walked to load the bases, and Daniel then drove in another run with a single. Brandon and Patrick each walked to force in a run and Brody’s single drove in two more. Keaton walked, and Jeremy Adler got in on the hit parade to drive in the 7th and 8th runs of the inning. With an 11-3 lead, Patrick went back to the mound with some breathing room. The Red Sox did not give up however. Their #4 hitter led off with a double, and an RBI single made it 11-4. This time things would not fall apart in the 4th for the Dodgers. Keaton made a big play to fire up his team, throwing out the Red Sox base runner who was trying to steal 2nd. Brandon applied the tag for the first out of the i nning, clearing the bases. Keaton has done a great job at catcher this year throwing out a number of would be thieves. The next batter grounded out to Nolan at first for the 2nd out. After a single, Patrick put an end to the inning with a strikeout.

With one out in the fifth inning, Jesse got on base with his 3rd walk in 3 at bats. Thomas also walked and Jack then hit his first triple of the year and cleared the bases. Daniel added another RBI with a ground out to the pitcher. Brandon took one for the team to get to first and Patrick followed with a walk. Brody added the 4th run of the inning with an RBI single giving him 4 RBI on the game. Eric Hauschildt did a good job on the mound, in what I believe was his first pitching appearance, recording two of the outs himself with a strikeout and a groundout. Patrick stayed in the game as pitcher for his 2nd full inning of work in the bottom half of the 5th. He got the ever important lead-off hitter on a ground out to Brody at shortstop. The next hitter had a single, but Patrick got the next two hitters to bounce out back to him to escape the inning on 11 pitches.

Jeremy led off the 6th inning with a walk, and back to back singles by Nolan and Austin resulted in another run. Austin’s RBI made it so that all 11 Dodgers had at least one RBI in the game. Jesse hit into another fielder’s choice, but it brought in another run. Not to be outdone, Jack had a single to bring in the final Dodger run of the game giving them 18. Daniel had his 2nd single of the game, but was left stranded when Meghan Correa, the Red Sox pitcher, got the final out on a strikeout. The bottom of the inning featured Jack< /B> on the mound. Jack’s pitching appearance meant that the Dodgers had accomplished one of their goals from the beginning of the season of having every player pitch at least one inning. Jack worked hard in practice during the season, and it showed when he got his chance. Jack retired the first batter he faced on a ground ball to Brody at shortstop. Jack now faced the heart of the Red Sox order. Cody Kim had a solid single, and Max Beuhler reached base when a pitch just barely skimmed his elbow. A single by Colin Palmer brought in the 5th and final run for the Red Sox. Jack kept his composure and made a great play tagging out a runner at home who tried to steal on a pass ball. Keaton ran the ball down quickly and threw to Jack for the 2nd out of the inning. Jack then finished the game in style by striking out the final Red Sox hitter of the game.

The Dodgers would like to acknowledge the Red Sox coaches and players for their excellent sportsmanship and effort all year. It should be noted that the Red Sox coaches were always positive with their players and also met their goal of having everyone experience the thrill of being on the mound and pitching.

Dodgers 17   Reds 1

The Dodgers entered the final game of the regular season only ½ game ahead of their nemesis, the Giants, so a victory would lock up the regular season title. Facing a fast improving reds team that had won 2 of their last 3 games, the Dodgers needed to continue to play solid baseball.

Dodgers’ ace, Brody Biggs started on the mound once again, and continued his solid pitching. He got the first batter on a ground out to Keaton Heise at first, and struck out the next Reds hitter on a 3-2 pitch. The number three hitter was able to get a single up the middle and threatened to score, when he worked his way around to third on a walk to the number 4 hitter. However, Jack Matson made a great hustle play flipping the ball to Brody, who applied the tag for the final out of the inning, when the runner tried to score on a pass ball. The Dodgers once again got off to a quick start at the plate to jump ahead in the bottom of the first. The Reds starting pitcher, Jack Good was throwing bullets, and retired the first two hitt ers. Brody managed to get on base to start things for the Dodgers, and Keaton then came through with a clutch double to the left field fence to bring in the first run of the game. Jeremy Adler followed with a walk on a 3-2 pitch, and Keaton used some heads up base running to make it a 2-0 game.

Brody started quickly in the 2nd inning, getting a strikeout on 3 pitches. In a replay of the first inning, the next batter had a single and advanced to third on a walk to the #7 hitter. Jack once again flipped to Brody who applied the tag to the runner trying to steal home. Brody then finished the inning off with a strikeout. The Reds pitcher was on fire in the 2nd retiring the Dodgers 1-2-3 with two strikeouts to keep the game tight at 2-1.

Fired up, the Reds came out swinging in the top of the 3rd inning. Their leadoff hitter had a single, and after a strikeout, the next batter crushed a triple off Brody making it a 2-1 game, with the Reds threatening for more. Brody put out the fire by getting the next hitter to pop out to the pitcher, and striking out the following hitter, stranding the runner at third. The Dodgers hitters responded in the bottom of the inning to open up the game. Thomas Jenkins and Jack both battled at the plate with the tough Reds pitcher, and came away with hard earned walks on 3-2 counts. Daniel Basilios then came through with a huge RBI single to start the run parade. Brandon Nash, the Dodgers leadoff hitter, loaded the bases with a single, and Patrick Shannon brought in the 2nd run with a walk on a 3-2 count. Keaton, Jeremy, and Leif Krampert each had RBI singles back to back to back. Austin Nash drove in the 8th and final run of the inning with a single to open up the game to 10-1.

With the championship on the line, and having given up big innings in previous games, the Dodgers took no chances and had Brody pitch the 4th inning. The move paid off as he came through with a 1-2-3 inning. Thomas made a nice catch on a flyball to 2nd to start the inning, and Brody struck out the next two hitters. Thomas once again led off at the plate for the Dodgers, and took one for the team on a 3-0 pitch to get on base. Daniel had his 2nd single of the game to get the Dodgers back to the top of the order. Brandon followed with an RBI single, and Patrick followed with an RBI double. Brody got in on the RBI action with a single of his own, and Keaton walked to load the bases. The Dodgers hitters continued to come through on 3-2 counts. Jeremy had an RBI single and Leif drove in a run with a walk, each on 3-2 pitches. Nolan Matura had an RBI single of his own to keep the runs coming. Austin was unlucky in getting called out on an infield fly rule on a ball that actually dropped and probably would have been a single. Jesse Allen came through with an RBI single on a 3-2 count, to make it 17-1 and the Dodgers had batted around the order for the 2nd straight inning.

Patrick came in to pitch the top of the 5th inning and continued to be very efficient. Patrick struck out the first two batters he faced before giving up a single. Patrick came right back and got the final out on another strikeout and used a total of only 10 pitches. The Dodgers threatened to score in the bottom of the 5th but left the bases loaded. Brandon Patrick and Brody all had singles.

Despite not pitching in quite a while, Austin did a great job on the mound in the 6th inning needing only 11 pitches to finish the game. Up against the top of the Reds order, he struck out the first batter he faced and got the next batter on a grounder to first which Patrick made a good play on. The next batter drove a flyball to left field, but thanks to all those games of 500 this season, Jack positioned himself under it and caught it to secure the regular season championship for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers coaching staff are very proud of the way this team worked hard all season and wish them the best of luck in the playoffs!

Dodgers 12   Reds 3

In a rematch of their previous game, it was the Dodgers and Reds competing again. However, this time it was for a chance at going to the finals, and the Reds had two key players playing that were missing in the previous matchup.

The Reds started out the top of the 1st on a positive note when their lead-off hitter was able to fight for a walk against Dodgers pitcher Brody Biggs. Brody settled down and got the next hitter on a strikeout, but the runner was able to advance to third and scored on a comebacker to the mound. Brody shut the door by striking out the Red’s cleanup hitter, but the Reds had a 1-0 lead. The Dodgers did not let the early deficit get to them, and scored three runs of their own in the inning. Brandon Nash led off with a single to right field. Patrick Shannon followed with a walk and both runner s moved up on a wild pitch. The count went full on Brody, and Brandon scored on a pass ball to tie the game. Brody was able to walk, and Keaton Heise then reached on an error to load the bases. After a strikeout for the first out of the inning, Leif Krampert and Nolan Matura, both were patient at the plate and fouled off tough pitches to get the count full before finally earning a walk to drive in a run. With the bases still loaded and only one out, the Reds escaped the big inning by getting an out at home on a comebacker to the mound, and a fielder’s choice 6-4 for the final out.

Things remained tight in the 2nd inning. Brody struck out the side in order to get the Dodgers back at bat, but the Reds’ pitcher retired the side in order as well on a grounder to short and two strike outs.

Brody continued to sail along in the third inning. He retired the first hitter on a ground ball to Austin Nash at 2nd base, and then struck out the next two hitters for another 1-2-3 inning. With the top of the order up, the Dodgers opened things up in the bottom of the 3rd. Brandon earned an important lead-off walk, and after a strikeout for the first out, Brandon advanced to 2nd on a steal. Brody then exchanged places with him on an RBI double. Keaton followed with a walk, and Jeremy then came through with an RBI sing le. Leif got on with his 2nd walk of the game, and Nolan then had a huge three run triple, his 3rd on the season. With two outs, Jesse Allen walked, but the runners were stranded at first and third to end the inning with the score 8-1 in the Dodgers favor.

The Reds were not going to go down without a fight. Brody started with a strikeout, but the next batter reached base on a single. Thomas Jenkins then made a great play on a hard hit ground ball to 2nd base and flipped to Brandon at short to get the lead runner for the 2nd out of the inning. The next batter came through for the Reds with a double to score a run, and another run scored on a Dodger error making it 8-3. A single then put runners on first and third. The Reds tried to pull off a double steal to bring in another run, but catcher Keaton fired a throw to Brandon at 2nd base who then dove to tag the runne r for the final out of the inning, preventing the runner at third from scoring. The Dodgers answered right back in the bottom of the fourth. Daniel Basilios led off the inning with a shot up the middle, but was robbed of a base hit by a diving play by the reds pitcher. Jack Matson got things going with a walk, and Brandon then hit a shot to right field that rolled to the fence. Brandon circled the bases, and just beat the throw to the plate for an inside the park two run homerun. Patrick kept things rolling with a walk, and Brody followed with a hard hit single. After a strikeout for the 2nd out, Jeremy came through with his 2nd RBI single of the game, a shot to center field. Brody scored the final run of the inning on a pass ball, making it 12-3.

With 8 pitches left, Brody took the mound in the 5th and was nearly able to complete the inning. He got the first batter out on a grounder to Leif at 2nd base on the first pitch. Brody struck out the next batter, but hit the following batter with his final pitch putting a man on first with two outs. Patrick then came in and finished the inning in his usual efficient manner, getting the first batter he faced to line-out to Leif at 2nd on the first pitch he threw. The Dodgers went quietly in the bottom of the 5th, with the score remaining 12-3.

Patrick started the inning on fire, striking out the first two batters he faced on the minimum 6 pitches. That brought the top of the order up for one last chance at a rally. The Reds had back to back singles, each on the first pitch, putting runners at 1st and 2nd. Patrick ended the game with one more pitch, this time getting the final out on a flyball to Brody at short.

The Dodgers will now face the winner of the Red Sox vs Giants game in the finals on Saturday at 8:45.
