Play Ball!

Welcome to the 2018 Lunada Bay Little League!

The 2018 Little League season is upon us!  Our upper division teams are drafted and practicing, and our Farm and T-ball teams will soon be formed and start practicing as well.  We are looking forward to a great year!  Please take the time to read through this e-mail, as it contains important information and dates to mark for your calendar.

Cleanup Day:  Feb. 10

Please join us on Saturday, Feb. 10, to help clean up our fields and get everything looking sharp to kick off the season.  Some people will get started bright and early at 8:00 am, but any help you can provide throughout the morning is appreciated.  Please bring a rake or a shovel or weed clippers if you can, and gardening gloves are recommended.

Opening Day:  Feb. 24

The season starts officially on Sat., Feb. 24!  Players will meet at 7:30 am in the grass north of the PVHS administration buildings to assemble for the traditional parade to the field.  The parade starts promptly at 8:00 am and arrives at the LBLL fields at 8:30 am for opening ceremony speeches, the pancake breakfast, and other festivities before the action begins later that morning with a Major game on the Major field and T-ball and Farm games all day long on the Minor field.  We'll also have bounce houses in the Minor outfield for the kids to play in, and team pictures will be taken throughout the mid-morning to early afternoon.

Spring Break:  March 31-April 8

No games during PVPUSD Spring Break, March 31 to April 8.

Hit-A-Thon:  Sunday, April 15

Our second annual Hit-A-Thon will have our kids banging baseballs for big bucks from noon to 3 pm on Sunday, April 15.
Closing Day & Diamond Ball, June 2
Definitely mark your calendars for Sat., June 2, to spend the day with the Bay!
Action begins with the Intermediate Championship game, and throughout the morning and lunch hours we'll have T-ball and Farm and the Challengers before the Minors Championship and Majors Championship games in the early afternoon.  We'll also have bounce houses and other attractions for the kids, creating a festival atmosphere throughout the day!
When the Minor and Major Championship games conclude we will have our trophy presentations and awards, and then the roles will reverse as the coaches take the field, first for the interleague game coached by the kids, and then for the "League vs. Legends" game where they'll see if they've got what it takes against former LBLL greats now playing high school ball!  Capping off the day will be the return of the LBLL Diamond Ball, where we'll trade in the athletic gear for formal wear and celebrate the season in style!
Please Support the Banner Project!

Finally, Lunada Bay Little League is once again instituting a great way to show our community spirit as a league while also supporting our players and the operation of the league.  All teams in all of our divisions (T-ball through Major) will be asked as a team to donate an outfield banner to the league.  Each banner will have the team name and players names displayed.  Support for this project last  year was terrific!  We hope that will be repeated this year.
The League is asking that each family donate $35 toward their team's banner, which will be displayed at the field all season long.  We charge our corporate sponsors who commit prior to Dec. 31 $350 for a banner for the season, which works out to $35 per family at an average of ten players per team.  This reasonable donation from each of our LBLL families will go directly to the operational costs of the League, AND the kids will love seeing their teams and names on the banners on the fences.
Please understand that Lunada Bay Little League is smaller than a great majority of the other little leagues in the South Bay.  This is a critical part of what makes us special:  we have a greater sense of community than the larger leagues.  On the other hand, our lower enrollment makes it difficult to cover the fixed costs of maintaining the excellent facilities that our kids get to use and providing them with a first class youth baseball experience, such as umpires, water for grass and other field maintenance, uniforms, electricity, equipment, fencing and netting, restroom supplies and maintenance, and all the rest of the behind the scenes details that make possible the fun and excitement we all see on the field on game day.  Our league relies significantly on donations to cover the operating costs—player registrations alone do not cover these costs and we depend on supplemental fundraising throughout the season to meet our budget requirements.

We greatly appreciate your support -- Play Ball!
